Maia takes old ornaments and embellishes them with different types of clay to create surreal, abstract sculptures.

'I use old ceramics, polymer clay, epoxy clay and air dry clay as well as paint and foil. The concept is an alien virus that has taken over the ceramic ‘hosts’. I was inspired by nature taking back man made spaces during lockdown and my own issues with a lifelong reoccurring cyst in my jaw that I have surgery for every year. Nature is ruthless but also beautiful and I wanted to show this through my art.’
